DAHA (Duluth Amateur Hockey Association) Hank Jensen Financial Aide Fund -- We again gave $1,000 to this foundation to help traveling players offset some expenses while traveling during their peewee and bantams years. Our hope is to help some players continue playing without such a financial burden on their parents. We want to help those players who have the talent and desire to play the opportunity to play the game they love! YMCA Camp Miller -- We gave $1,000 to Camp Miller this year to give youth campers the opportunity to be introduced to music during their camp week. With the donation they purchased seven guitars, bags, tuners, picks, strings and chord lesson books. The guitars they purchased each have an engraved plaque, "Donated to YMCA Camp Miller in Memory of Chad Liebaert". We are very excited to give this donation knowing that some of the youth campers will have the chance to learn a little about music and guitar during their week. Hopefully some will go home with the inspiration of wanting music to be a part of their life. Duluth Heritage Sports Center -- $500 was given to purchase the five bricks that will be engraved and displayed in the lobby. They will tell our story "In Memory of Chad Liebaert, 12/12/79 - 3/24/07, West Duluth Goaltender". We look forward to seeing these bricks displayed, however, that project has not yet begun at the sports center. More... |
Because of Chad's enthusiastic and hard-working friends, a SECOND memorial concert was held on January 10, 2009. It was a huge success! We must thank EVERYONE who attended and participated in this event, especially this year's "dream team": Jeremy Maida, Dustin Desanto, Jim Watts, Nick Garramone, Matt Beal, Tonia Kangas, Bridgit and Brian Maruska, Bjorn Werner, Stephanie Fechner, Sam Maida and Darren Hanson. They all worked hard on putting all the ideas together and making this work. A special thanks to Nick and Dustin for getting all the volunteers who helped at the door that night, because we would not be able to do it without them. Thanks also to those who helped sell our t-shirts, window clings and 2008 concert DVD. Bridgit and Stephanie took on the silent auction and worked it the entire evening. They did a fabulous job and it was well worth all the effort put into it! More... We still have t-shirts, window clings and 2008 DVDs left over. Anyone interested in any of these, please contact Cara via email. They need to go!!!

For those of you who attended the 2008 "Live to Play" Concert, you know what a great success it was. We raised $5,000 in just one evening! That's huge, considering we had no idea what to expect going into it. There were a few expenses we had to take care of (advertising, T-shirts & screen printing), but we were able to make the donations to both youth music and hockey as we planned. With our profits we gave equal donations of $1,000 to the Denfeld Music Department, Boys & Girls Club After School Music Program, and Duluth Amateur Hockey Association's Hank Jensen Financial Fund which helps needed players meet their expenses. The final donation is still in the works with the new Duluth Heritage Sports Center. We are purchasing five $100 bricks that will be displayed in the lobby saying: In Memory of Chad Liebaert, 12/12/79 - 3/24/07, West Duluth Goaltender. The remaining $500 will be given to their Foundation to help meet expenses for equipment and coaching costs. The 2008 concert was a labor of love from the beginning. Everyone involved in the planning and/or attending should feel very proud to have been a part of this successful event. The generosity of Chad's family and friends made it possible to make these contributions. By doing so, were are able to keep Chad's passions and spirit alive!

We would like to thank EVERYONE who attended and participated in the "LIVE TO PLAY" memorial concert on January 5th, 2008 at Mr.D's. This event was a labor of love from beginning to end. A special thanks to the "Dream Team" who worked with so much enthusiasm putting the concert together. Jeremy Maida initiated the idea, contacted and organized all the musicians that performed at the concert. Dustin Desanto, Jim Watts, Nick Garramone, Micki Agar, Bjorn Werner, Matt Beal, Tonia Kangas, Chris Hallfrisch (all the way from Texas), and Chris Benson worked so very hard on planning, ideas, advertising, T-shirt sales, web page start-up and design, and every aspect it took to make this concert happen. The friends of Chad who came forward and volunteered to help work the doors that evening must be thanked also. We could not have done it without all of you! More...
